Eugene E. Kaplan is a North Carolina Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor who has been providing services for people suffering from substance use disorders for 16 years, beginning in Mecklenburg County and presently in New Hanover and Brunswick Counties.
Born and raised in the Cleveland, Ohio area, Kaplan and his family moved to North Carolina in 1995. In 2004, he realized that the way he was living was not healthy and made the decision to get clean and sober; suggestions from mentors led Kaplan to return to school at 50 years old to become a counselor. He received an associate degree in human services technology with a concentration in substance abuse in 2008. Kaplan has been working as a substance abuse counselor since graduating and received a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a minor in substance abuse from UNC Pembroke in 2020.
With experience in the counseling field and almost 20 years of living a recovery-based lifestyle, Kaplan is fully qualified and prepared to provide the services necessary to help lead the population that live in and around Brunswick County to the next phase in their recovery process.
Kaplan lives on Oak Island with his wife, Glenna, and their dog, Buddy.
